Residency
Howard University Hospital sponsors the following training programs through the College of Medicine and the College of Dentistry. These programs meet the educational requirements recommended for certification by the respective specialty boards. They are also designed to fulfill the requirements for postgraduate education in each field, as proposed by the respective professional associations.
The heads of clinical departments and the Dean of the College of Medicine assist graduating seniors and alumni in securing suitable hospital appointments. All of the approved residencies at Howard University Hospital are under the direct supervision of the faculty of the College of Medicine.

Residents are assigned to training in specialty services that are approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, American Dental Association, American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists or the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. Programs are approved for one to five years of training with an established number of residents regulated by the accrediting body for each training program.
Applicants must have:
1. Graduated or be in the final year of an ACGME accredited clinical residency program; and
2. A permanent medical license valid in the District of Columbia or be eligible for one
Preference Criteria:
1. Demonstrated interest in Addiction Medicine particularly working in medically underserved communities;
2. Research experience; and
3. Community service
Required Application Materials:
1. Three letters of recommendation - if still in a residency program please include one letter from current residency training director that states the expected date of successful completion of residency program
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. Personal statement (500 words or less) detailing current interest in Addiction Medicine
