Message from the Dean

Welcome to the Howard University College of Medicine virtual space. I am Andrea Hayes Dixon, and I am the Dean of the College of Medicine and the Vice President of Clinical Affairs. Here at Howard University, College of Medicine, our mission is to educate the next generation of physicians, who will care for our underserved, and underrepresented population.  We aim to provide the highest educational experience with the most talented faculty.

I am committed to the success of the medical students and residents at Howard University College of Medicine. Successful training of the medical students and residents includes exposure to cutting-edge therapy, understanding how to critically evaluate a patient, make an accurate diagnosis, and sustain a treatment plan that fits with their lifestyle. It also includes creating a mind that will innovate to provide solutions for healthcare in the future.

We take pride in our 4-part mission of education, clinical excellence, research, and community. Howard University College of Medicine not only provides outstanding education but provides an outstanding clinical experience to expose our students to all aspects of Medicine and allow them to identify areas where they will excel in their careers. Our faculty are excited about discovery and research and providing the information we need to find cures for diabetes, hypertension, and cancer amongst other diagnoses. Our community is critically important to our success. We are integrated into our community so that we can empower them to understand their own health and wellness.
