Program Director's Welcome

I am very excited to welcome you to the HUH-GI Fellowship program. Our Hospital is located at the heart of Washington DC. Close by to many attractions: National Museum of African American History and Culture, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, United States Capitol and Washington Monument are to mention a few.

Our GI Fellowship program was first certified in 1987 and has been on continued accreditation status ever since. Effective date of Current accreditation date was Jan 24, 2020.

We have rich history and tradition of patient care, excellence in education and research as our core mission. Our GI Fellowship program offers a world class Academic training in a diverse, culturally rich, safe and welcoming environment.

Our Gastroenterology Fellowship program is a 3 years Program.

Our trainee gain experience from a variety of patient population and health care as an inpatient and outpatient setting (University hospitals, Community hospitals, VAMC) for their clinical, cognitive and procedural skills. Fellows involve in a variety of research activities and QI projects (Out-come based, Clinical, Preclinical) depending on their interests.

We also have a cutting age Simulation lab to supplement the procedural skills.

We pride ourselves in the achievement of our Fellows and in producing academically prepared, culturally sensitive, diverse work force ready to the next level of advanced Fellowship training, academic appointment or private community setting practice.

Mission

Gastroenterology/Hepatology programs main Mission is-

  • To produce Academically prepared and Clinically competent Gastroenterologist capable of diverse careers in Gastroenterology and Hepatolog
  • Emphasis on increasing the number of minority Gastroenterology Specialist in the country.
  • Cultivate a world class Academic training program in a diverse, culturally sensitive, and welcoming environment
  • To equip fellows with the Knowledge, Skills and Aptitude to meet the requirements for Board Certification in Gastroenterology/Hepatolog
  • Our Fellowship program also follows the mission of the Howard University Graduate Medical Education Program mission to provide a unique and outstanding educational experience with emphasis on teaching them to be compassionate care givers, and committed to serving the African-American and other historically disenfranchised groups in the community while providing educational opportunities to a diverse group of fellows, who will not only be distinguished in service, teaching and research, but will also seek solutions to human and social problems, addressing disparities in the health care delivery system in the United States and throughout the world.
