Welcome to Howard University Department of Psychiatry Residency Program. Howard University, a historically Black institution, is a prolific educator of physicians. Howard’s Psychiatry Residency Program embraces an institutional mission to promote health equity for underserved populations and to train diverse clinicians that excel at the highest level as learners and teachers.
Our program is committed to curriculum reform, community engagement, and achieving excellence in mental health care, advocacy, and policy.
Mission
The Department of Psychiatry provides an educational experience for residents that allows them to:
- acquire a broad understanding of general psychiatry
- to be competent in techniques in this discipline
- to provide consultative role as psychiatrists in patient-care decision making
- to develop professionally and personally while ensuring safe and appropriate care for patients in an ethical and professional environment
