Program Director's Welcome

Thank you for expressing interest in the pharmacy residency program at Howard University Hospital (HUH). As a pharmacy resident at HUH, you have the benefit of training at a level-1 trauma center that provides comprehensive healthcare to the residents of our nation’s capital.  Pharmacy residents will join our exceptional team of pharmacists and work hand-in-hand with preceptors to provide optimized medication management for our diverse patient population.

Our PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency is a 12-month program with pharmacy staff and faculty committed to ensuring residents graduate with confidence and assertiveness needed to address patients’ healthcare needs to fellow colleagues, nurses, physicians, patients and their families. We provide the opportunity for our residents to learn in a variety of patient care settings, receiving instruction in medication management from dedicated, competent, and enthusiastic preceptors. Our graduating residents will be competent and confident practitioners of direct patient care in multiple practice and patient care environments and will be well-qualified to pursue specialty residency training, board certification or clinical pharmacist positions upon completion of their residency training at Howard University Hospital.

Mission

  • Create the best learning environment for consistent, evaluated clinical pharmacy training
  • Provide the greatest number of training opportunities to facilitate the resident’s choice of specialty
  • Develop well-rounded pharmacy practitioners that patients and providers demand to have as part of their healthcare team

We look forward to receiving your application to our PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and being part of your educational journey!
