Dermatology Residency Program

Welcome to the Howard University Dermatology Residency Program website. I am delighted that you are considering our residency program for your post graduate training. We are a historic department with faculty who are passionate about the opportunity to train a new generation of dermatologists.

Our department is deeply committed to caring for the underserved, and this mission is in alignment with that of our institution. Howard University Hospital is the nation's only teaching hospital on the campus of a historically black university. It was established in 1862 as the first hospital of its kind to provide medical treatment and medical training for African Americans. Today, Howard University Hospital is a diverse and inclusive institution, devoted to serving the surrounding community and training students and residents from all backgrounds.

Our faculty provides outstanding patient care, with expertise in complex medical dermatology, pediatric dermatology, dermatologic surgery, cosmetics, dermatopathology, laser therapy and basic science. Our program boasts a robust didactic component that employs trainee-centered active learning methods, as well as a dynamic joint educational program with our regional colleagues.

Our residents train at Howard University Hospital, the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Children's National Medical Center and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  Therefore, our residents are exposed to diverse patient populations and multiple service delivery systems.

In addition, we are located in the heart of Washington DC, an exciting place to work and live with innumerable opportunities for historic, cultural and culinary adventures.

We look forward to reviewing your application and learning more about you.
