Admission with Advance Standing
The following procedures must be followed for all students applying for admission with advanced standing to the Howard University College of Medicine:
- The College of Medicine’s Application for Admission with Advanced Standing must be completed and returned no later than June 1 of the year in which advanced standing admission is requested.
- The application form must be accompanied by an application fee of $45.00 made payable to Howard University in the form of a certified check or money order only.
- A letter from the Dean of your current or previous medical school must be submitted; the Dean’s letter must provide a complete academic history and evaluation of your overall performance. The letter must specify that you are in good standing and eligible to enroll.
- A transcript of medical school course work will be required. Only students in good academic standing at a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education will be considered for admission with advanced standing. Students are only considered for advanced standing admission to the junior year of study.
- You must request that an official report of the United States Medical Licensing Examination, Step 1 scores be sent directly to our Admissions Office.
- A recent 2x2 passport style photograph will be required and must be attached to your application.
Applicants for admission with advanced standing may be invited for an interview.
Final decisions on applicants for admission with advanced standing are made in July after results of the United States Medical Licensing Examination Step 1 are received for those who have not previously taken and passed this examination.
