To Prospective Students
The Department of Physiology and Biophysics is currently recruiting students for its graduate program. Our program consists of four basic components, i.e. physiology core courses, interdisciplinary and quantitative courses, and research. Core courses are designed to develop a broad and profound understanding of basic physiological principles. The major areas of research include neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, pulmonary physiology, gastrointestinal physiology, renal physiology, endocrinology and cell metabolism, as well as molecular and cellular biophysics. Successful completion of the program leads to the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Physiology.
We are especially eager to recruit individuals who may qualify for the Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program from the Department of Education. The purpose of the GAANN program is to provide fellowships to graduate students of superior ability and who demonstrate financial need. GAANN fellows receive a stipend for subsistence and other expenses, as well as funds for tuition and fees. A GAANN fellow must have an excellent academic record, and be a United State citizen or a permanent resident of the United States.
In addition, we have available a T32 training grant funded by the NIH, and a limited number of graduate teaching assistantships.
